Step into the altruistic floor of the Volunteer Services Unit, where the spirit of collaborative education intertwines with hands-on efforts to realize my mission of supporting individuals, families, and communities for holistic well-being and social equity.
The first room invites us into the spirited assortment of student clubs. In this space, my involvement has extended to the role of co-president for the Human Ecology Students' Association this year. Additionally, I was involved with Students for Wishes, a fundraising group for the Make-a-Wish Canada Foundation. As we navigate the dynamics of these clubs, we embody the essence of collaborative education, fostering an environment that transcends academic realms and contributes to the holistic development of each member. This commitment echoes my mission, breathing life into the belief that community support is foundational to well-being and social equity.
Transitioning into the second room, the heartbeat of community service pulses through my experiences. From tutoring with Boys & Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton and Area to serving as a Wayfinder and COVID-19 screener at the Misericordia Community Hospital and virtually supervising shifts for the COVID-19 community page at the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights, each interaction represents a commitment to the well-being of diverse communities. My mission statement becomes a lived reality as collaborative education intertwines with community service, fostering positive change and contributing to social equity.
The third room unveils the professional support extended to organizations, exemplified by my role on the 2024 Alberta Human Ecology & Home Economics Association conference committee. As the coordinator of the promotions subcommittee and a member of the registration subcommittee, I actively contribute to the planning and execution of a conference that amplifies the sustainable values of human ecology. In this professional capacity, my mission statement is a guiding principle and a roadmap for crafting materials that resonate with the broader community, promoting education, and advancing social equity.
Join me on this reflective journey through the Volunteer Services Unit, where each room encapsulates my mission of collaborative education for holistic well-being and social equity. Together, we traverse the meaningful intersections of academic involvement, community service, and professional support, weaving a narrative that embodies the ethos of compassionate care and dedicated advocacy.
