In the past four years, I have filled my time by recreationally joining Edmonton community leagues, the "Edmonton Sport and Social Club" (ESSC) and the "Edmonton Volleyball and Pickleball Center" (EVPC). This was motivated by a desire to stay connected with my friends and to remain physically active.
It was initially challenging returning to volleyball since last playing on my junior high school volleyball team. Still, my friends and I continually remind ourselves that we are there to improve our skills and have fun!

My musical journey began at H.E. Beriault Catholic Junior High School. Music was a mandatory option class for all students in the seventh grade. I chose to play the flute as many of my friends had wanted to do so. As I continued to play, I fell in love with playing the instrument, auditioning for the Junior All-City Band at the advice of my music teacher.
I continued my musical journey at Archbishop MacDonald Edmonton Catholic High School and the Edmonton Catholic School Division in the following ensembles:
Junior (2016-2017) and Senior Band (2017-2019) - directed by Dale Chapman
Honour Band (2016-2018, directed by Arthur Milan; 2018-2019, directed by Jolene Wong)
Jazz Band (tenor and baritone saxophone) (2017-2018, directed by Arthur Milan; 2018-2019, directed by Dale Chapman)
Senior All-City Band (2018-2019) - directed by Dale Chapman
I have been actively engaged with the University of Alberta's (U of A) music department since my enrollment in 2019, participating in various music ensembles.
I have played the flute with the following ensembles:
U of A Concert Band (2019-2020, 2022-2023) - directed by Daryl Price
U of A Symphonic Wind Ensemble (SWE) (2020-2022) - directed by Dr. Angela Schroeder
U of A Summer Orchestra (2023) - directed by Lidia Khaner
Notably, I am also involved in my ensembles second season, initiated by my former high school band director, Jolene Wong. She has established the "Wild Rose Wind Ensemble," an Edmonton youth concert band catering to musicians aged 18-30.
During my time with the Symphonic Wind Ensemble (SWE) at the University of Alberta, Dr. Angela Schroeder (conductor) allowed me to play the flute solo in the world premiere of "Evening Experience by a Pond," a composition by U of A graduate Jienan Chen.
SWE, comprised of the university's most talented wind and percussion musicians, set exceptionally high standards for its members, acknowledging the challenging nature of the ensemble's repertoire. Faced with this, I embraced personal responsibility for refining my skills. It was an environment where many of my fellow musicians were music majors, and as a physiology student, I grappled with a sense of imposter syndrome. Despite this, I actively engaged with my flute section and sought guidance from Dr. Schroeder, striving to navigate challenging passages with fluidity. Dedication to additional practice became paramount, ensuring my contribution to the ensemble's performance was not only effective but enriched.
Simultaneously, my focus extended to the intricacies of the solo. Collaborating closely with Dr. Schroeder and fellow musicians, we worked to interpret and present the piece in a manner that paid homage to the profound artistic vision encapsulated in "Evening Experience by a Pond."
In the broader context of my narrative, the convergence of my studies in physiology and my musical experiences serves as a testament to the transformative power of collaborative education. It goes beyond fostering technical proficiency, extending to a comprehensive understanding of the human experience at both individual and community levels. This intersection becomes a cornerstone of my journey, highlighting the importance of merging diverse disciplines for holistic well-being and social equity.
The artefact presented below serves as a tangible representation of the synergy between my commitment to collaborative education and the culmination of these efforts: the 2021 Alumni Weekend concert with the Symphonic Wind Ensemble. I am proud of my performance here, though I recognize the opportunity for improvement (such as intonation, dynamics, or phrasing).
