Welcome to the Family Care unit, a curated space where my explorations in family dynamics, policy landscapes, and sustainability initiatives unfold. In this unit, we delve into the intricate tapestry of familial relationships, addressing critical issues with a lens of care, understanding, and sustainability.
Step into the first room and explore my HECOL 313: Family Dynamics research paper titled "Queer Family Members: Through the Lens of Feminist Theory and Family Systems Theory." Co-written with Ellean Joy Eresmas, our paper delves into shifting family dynamics prompted by queer individuals coming out. Through feminist and family systems theories, we unravel the intricate threads of acceptance, understanding, and recalibration within families, navigating the revelation of queer identity, and adding a profound layer to our understanding of family dynamics.
In another room of our journey, we explore my firsthand encounters with family dynamics. Dive into the intricacies of my immigration journey and its consequential shifts in responsibilities for my parents and caregivers concerning myself and my brothers. Shaped by the fusion of personal experiences and the enlightenment derived from HECOL 410: Parent-Child Relationships, my parenting plan adopts a child-centred approach that integrates aspects of both traditional and authoritative parenting styles.
Guided by my own immigrant experiences and concepts from HECOL 440: Family Policy Issues, join me in navigating the intricacies of Canadian immigration policies, shedding light on the implications and challenges faced by those participating in one immigration program, the Temporary Foreign Worker Program. Together, we'll gain a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted issues surrounding temporary foreign workers and explore potential avenues for policy improvements for these immigrants and their families.
As we transition to sustainability, you may hear some construction sounds—my integrative project for the Certificate in Sustainability, 'Towards inclusive and sustainable healthcare policies for recent immigrants in Canada,' is currently in progress. Still, let's immerse ourselves in innovative approaches to healthcare that prioritize inclusivity and sustainability, with a particular focus on the well-being of recent immigrants. This initiative aims to carve a path toward healthcare policies that foster equity, resilience, and long-term sustainability.
Let's continue our journey together through the hallways of the Family Care unit. Each room within this unit contributes to a broader narrative of fostering understanding, promoting positive familial relationships, and advocating for inclusive, sustainable policies that resonate with the diverse experiences of individuals and families in Canada.
